AWFS Debut: New RayForce System Technology eliminates glue lines, maximizes quality

With a little training, the same technician can use our RayForce technology as easily as they can any other contour edgebander.”

In recent years, evolving trends and the popularity of contemporary and high-gloss cabinetry have fueled an ongoing quest for more aesthetically pleasing zero-joint or zero-edge edgebanding. Options for manufacturing high-quality products by eliminating visible glue lines are growing once again at AWFS 2019 with the North American debut of the RayForce System (RFS) from Biesse for the Rover Edge Series of CNC contouring edgebanders. RayForce, which follows the successful introduction of the company’s AirForce hot-air technology for the traditional edgebander line, offers customers a more affordable solution for achieving high-quality without investing in complex and expensive laser or plasma systems.

RayForce works by fusing a reactive layer of edgebanding material with near-infrared rays (NIR) so it sticks perfectly on a curved panel edge. The technology is delivered through an easily removed contour edgebanding unit designed for the Biesse Rover B Edge machine, as well as for Rover A Edge and Rover C Edge. The Biesse Edge series already offers glue flexibility because it can apply edgebanding with either EVA or PUR glue. Manufacturers who already achieve high quality on straight edges with their AirForce zero-joint systems say they are also eager to see how RayForce can use NIR technology to achieve the same high quality on office furniture and other products with curved edges.

“We are very eager to introduce RayForce to North America at AWFS,” said Biesse Product Manager Tiziano Allessandro. “The development of this technology was strongly supported by the founder of the company, Giancarlo Selci, who sustained the various phases up until Commercialization. RayForce offers the same high-quality finishing as either hot-air or laser technology, but because it uses an infrared process, it is more affordable. It also offers easier maintenance and glue flexibility. Going forward, customers won’t need special technicians to achieve a zero-joint result. With a little training, the same technician can use our RayForce technology as easily as they can any other contour edgebander.”

RayForce (RFS) Advantages

  • Achieves invisible glue line/zero-joint contour edgebanding
  • Lower energy consumption
  • Simpler to use without hiring specialized technicians
  • More easily maintained than complex laser systems
  • Highest quality -- no joints, no glue threads -- perfect fusion
  • Certified for resistance to heat, humidity and tearing
  • Uses the same edgebanding materials as AirForce and/or laser technology
  • Takes about 30 minutes to change from glue to RFS technology
